Week seven was chaotic in a word. I feel much busier this week than I have so far. I gave out my first accounting test this week and I learned a lot getting the students ready for the test. I leaned first of all that many students don't find it necessary to study! I also learned that no matter how much effort you poor into reviewing with your students it is still up to them to decide to think about the material and learn. Overall, I was pleased with the test results, there were a few students who did very poorly, but the grades were consistent with their grades from past tests. One student asked me if I felt bad that her grade is lower since I have been her teacher. I responded by saying, I care very much if she does well in the class and I put all my effort into teaching her the material to the best of my ability. It was an interesting question for a student to ask, but it shows they are definitely judging your abilities to teach.
Something I would change for the week would be my Friday accounting lesson. The lesson did not go as smoothly as I would have liked, and my co-op had a few suggestions for me. I feel I am in a strange position because I only observed accounting for a week before I took over the class. Also, I am only in that classroom for one period of the day. This makes teaching accounting difficult for me, because I do not get the chance to observe any content courses being taught during the week.
After my lesson on Friday I got permission from my main co-op to observe my other co-op teach her accounting lesson. This was very helpful to me, and I will be reviewing some of the concepts from Friday’s class with the students on Monday.
