Week 4 :)

This week was fun for me. I enjoyed interacting with my students a lot. I am feeling a lot more comfortable with all of them, and I think the students are all getting used to me. I have had to "lay down the law" once or twice, but the students seem to respect me now as their teacher. It has also been fun to branch out and add fun details to my lessons. I am only teaching keyboarding right now so the first week was a little dull. This week however I was able to come up with some activities to engage the students a little more.

I gave my first test this week and it was amazing to me to see the answers some students put down. Our test was online in Moodle and I felt it wasn't overly difficult and that we had reviewed for it thuroughly. Most students did well but many of them missed some very simple things we covered several times. I supose I wouldn't necessarily change my test, but I think one of my classes needs more review than the other. This is something I will consider before giving out another test!

  1. It's nice to hear that you're having fun with your classes and are able to enjoy the students while maintaining their respect. I think that's what its all about in teaching. If we're not enjoying the learning process and our students then they certainly won't either.

I completely understand what you're talking about with the feeling of having thoroughly reviewed something and the students still not getting simple concepts. I think student teachers need to learn to overcome it by through questioning during the lesson or being able to spot that bland look on the students' faces! But the fact that you've realized this is great... this is why we're student teaching and having fun with it!

  2. I am glad you are having fun with your classes. I beleive the positive interaction accomplished with fun activities can help break down learning barriers for some students. It is a great feeling to see the looks on their faces when they learn something new. I have been able to interact more with my students this week and everything seems to be slowly progressing.

  3. It is truly a challenge to create interesting and different activities in keyboarding, but there is so much out there for you to use. Do you have the BE activities book from ISA? Also, the professional semester literature has keyboarding ideas, and there is so much out there on the web!
